The remake no one expected.
This film is intriguing and full of mystery and cruel overall, it shows a cruel world where pleasure is evil's weapon, and where karma is non-existent.
This film lacked some realism that would've elevated the project more. From The Lighthouse (2019) and The Witch (2015), Eggers built a true-to-life representation of language that elevated authenticity and immersion, making you feel like something like that really happened, blending realism with dark folklore. But with this movie, that was lost.
