The big budget film that I first Watched on 2D but after watching it on 3D with my VR headset and a pair of high quality IEMs.
Before going on I regarded this film more of a tech demo than a feature film but my opinion has greatly drifted.
The film has an unique concept that I always liked, the aliens are us and now with more perspective about imperialism and capitalism but it barely plumbs to explore those aspects but the story works and despite of the cliches the original aspects make up for it.
I know understand with my own perspective and some comments from the staff that 3D was a crucial feature for the film, like color is for films, lighting and soundtrack and watching this film 2D is like watching The Wizard of Oz in Black and White. 3D was used cleverly and aimed the narrative and feel of the film and immerse the audience into the world of Pandora and made me understand so far that is sort of a different form from cinema, for every 24fps film, it felt for me as an album, a burst of photos but 3D made me feel like a present spectator and not a distant viewer, and like color and aspect rations it is a creative tool that some stories will benefit from it and not a objective better of showing moving pictures, like some movies benefit from black and white like Ida (2013), 1:1 aspect ratio like
The Lighthouse (2019), so A film designed for 3D and a story also directed for 3D could make like color did in the old days a new tool for filmmakers.
