Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens
5.3/10
This is a mess, the film has too many falls and mistakes that make the overall experience a bitter taste.
The film has no problems delivering a decent cinematography, great score and great performances but the pacing, editing, shots taken and overall directions is just sloppy.
The film resembles features to the original trilogy and I found no problem with that but I want to extend to the plot holes, the deus ex machina issues and directing problems.
SPOILERS AHEAD
The deus ex machina problems: what a coincidence that Palpatine's granddaughter is at Jakku where coincidentally was Poe getting Luke's location, and coincidentally Kylo Ren arrives to get Luke's location and by some reason is where Fin, the stormtrooper feels bad and decides that is bad to be part of the First Order and what a coincidence that Fin and Rey at escaping pick the Millennium Falcon which owner was Han Solo who also is Kylo Ren AKA Ben Solo and later Han catches the ship casually teaming with Fin and Rey, and please do not forget that this is happening in a enormous galaxy with billions of planes and uncountable inhabitants.
And also, how R2D2 wakes up randomly just because at the end of the film?
The directing problems: the first thing to take on note is the awful rushed pacing that leaves no room for payoffs or any rhythm. the length of the film is too short for what it tries to tell. the directing also shows its vomiting and stupid nature when framing, for example, Fin's realization of the first order being the bad guys, shaking his head that rather looked comical than anything else. the problems are too numerous to list but i conclude this, saying that this is a disaster.
writing problems: the script is trash, shame on the responsible people, the main idea is good but just that. Rey is somehow overpowered because the head of lucasfilm saw profit in taking feminism on it but rather felt like an insult to feminism, it is like, oh poor women, they are too weak, let's make a character that is powerful beyond logic with no flaws, it like saying that women are stupid and flawed and they make a stupidly strong character to compensate, this is just insulting.
another writing problem is the way Rey relates to Han Solo as a father in a matter of minutes, it would have worked just fantastically well if there were actual scenes of those two bonding and getting to know each other but literally they were just strangers.
the destruction of the starkiller base was overkilling, it was just ripoff of episode 4, it would have been just perfect if the base was just crippled but literally it was destroyed just because.
THIS FILM IS THE WORST.
Directed by: J. J. Abrams (Disney executives)
