It’s a film that could be a good representation of war, thus I think in my humble opinion that Ridley Scott should have shown more the characters to familiarize with the, come on, everyone were in the same uniform, same shaved-head and yes you could make the film way long by adding scenes featuring characters but I think it’d be a risky but worthy of trying.
